this weeks intention -everything old is new again

Our intention for our yoga practice at Wholly Yoga this first full week of the new year is, everything old is new again. Sometimes in life and in our yoga practice we can get stuck in the past attached to things we have previously done or been unable to do. How do we learn from the past while living into the future? This week we will endeavor to approach the tried and true postures in a new way and try some new postures and flows.  Let’s engage our yoga practice in mind body and spirit with a fresh new perspective. Consider using the scripture below for meditation and prayer this week. Anyone united with the Messiah gets a fresh start, is created new. The old life is gone; a new life burgeons! … Read entire article »

Teens in Tough Neighbourhoods Relieve Stress with Yoga | Yoga In My School

A recent article in The Oakland Tribune reports on the power of yoga to help relieve stress in schools in the South Bay area: a tough part of town known for gangs, drugs, violence and low socio-economic conditions. It started as a pilot project and how extends to a 6 weeks program for entire Freshman class. Tri-County Times > Living > YOGA – Strong body, healthy mind

Perhaps the most sought-after benefit of yoga is its ability to calm the mind, according to Barnes. “Yet, at the same time, there is no conflict with your religious convictions,” she said. “Yoga actually strengthens your beliefs.” That’s a common question people often have when learning about yoga for the first time. “Many times people will say, ‘I’m a Christian. Can I still practice yoga without a conflict in my beliefs?’” Barnes always answers with a smile, saying, “I’m a Christian, too, you sure can.” via Tri-County Times > Living > YOGA – Strong body, healthy mind. Namaste or No

Namaste or No

I teach yoga four times a week at a Christian College with Christian professors and students. I teach yoga two times a week at the church I pastor. At the end of each class I always close with the traditional yoga greeting/closing and sign of respect Namaste. I say the following. Jesus said, “You are the light of the world.” Namaste means the light that is in me recognizes the light in you. From time to time … Read entire article »
